## What we collect

### Information you give us

- **Account details:** your name, email address, company name and password (stored only as a salted hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- **Documentation content:** the pages, settings, images, videos and other files you write, upload or import into Velu, including drafts.
- **Connected accounts:** when you connect GitHub, Slack, Linear or Google Drive, we receive the access you grant, such as the repositories you choose and their contents, and the tokens needed to keep that connection working.
- **Billing details:** your plan, billing country and purchase history. Payments are processed by our merchant of record, Dodo Payments; we don't receive or store your full card number.
- **Messages to us:** what you send when you contact support or book a call.

### Information we collect when you use Velu

- **Usage and device data:** pages and features you use, actions such as publishing or running a workflow, IP address, browser and device type, and error logs.
- **Readers of published sites:** when someone reads a docs site we host, we receive standard request data (IP address, browser, pages viewed). If they use Ask AI, we store their questions, the answers and any feedback, linked to a random visitor identifier kept in a cookie. If a site requires sign-in, we process the reader's sign-in details on behalf of that site's owner.

## How we use it

- To provide Velu: host and build your documentation, run the editor, Ask AI, search, workflows and integrations you turn on.
- To manage your account, plan, credits and payments, and to send service emails such as verification, invitations, build failures and billing notices.
- To keep Velu secure: detect abuse, prevent fraud and investigate incidents.
- To understand and improve the product, using usage data in aggregate.
- To send product news, only where the law allows and with an option to unsubscribe in every message.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

## Legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: **contract** to provide the service you signed up for; **legitimate interests** for security, product improvement and service communications, balanced against your rights; **consent** for non-essential cookies and marketing, which you can withdraw at any time; and **legal obligation** where the law requires us to keep or disclose data.

For documentation sites and their readers, our customer decides what is collected and why; we process reader data on our customer's behalf as their processor.

## AI features

Velu's AI features (the onboarding docs writer, Autopilot and other workflows, Ask AI, and edits made through AI apps) send the content needed for each task to the AI model providers listed below. For example, Ask AI sends a reader's question with the relevant passages of the site; Autopilot sends a code change with the pages it affects.

- We use these providers through their business APIs, under terms that don't allow them to train their models on the content we send.
- We don't use your content to train our own models.
- AI output can be wrong. Changes proposed by AI are drafts or pull requests until you publish or merge them.

## Sharing and service providers

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Velu, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their service to us:

| Provider | What they do for us |

| Google Analytics | Website analytics on veludocs.com, with your consent |

We may also share information: with your organization's account owner and members, as the product is designed to; when you ask us to, such as when you connect another service; to comply with law or protect rights and safety; and as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply.

## Velu in Claude and other AI apps

When you connect Velu to an AI app such as Claude, you sign in to Velu and choose which permissions to grant: reading your documentation, editing drafts, and saving drafts or opening pull requests.

- The AI app receives the documentation content its requests read, and its provider handles that content under its own privacy terms.
- Velu stores the connection, the permissions you granted and access tokens. Tokens are stored only as hashes.
- Edits made through the app go into a private draft. Nothing is published until you review it and select Publish, or merge the pull request.
- You can disconnect at any time from the AI app's connector settings. Drafts stay in Velu until you publish or discard them.

## Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, protect against abuse, and measure how our website and product are used. On veludocs.com, analytics and marketing cookies stay off until you accept them in the consent banner, and you can change your choice at any time. Docs sites we host set a cookie with a random visitor identifier when a reader uses Ask AI. We don't currently respond to browser Do-Not-Track signals.

## How long we keep data

We keep account data and documentation content while your account is active. When you delete your account or ask us to delete data, we delete it or make it anonymous, except where we need to keep some records for legal, tax or security reasons, and then only for as long as needed. Backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule. Ask AI conversations on a hosted docs site are kept while the site is active, unless the site's owner asks us to delete them.

## Security

We protect data with encryption in transit and at rest, access limited to the people and systems that need it, isolated environments for AI agents that work on your code and content, secrets kept in a managed secret store, and monitoring. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you as the law requires.

## Where data is processed

Velu runs primarily in the United States. If you use Velu from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.

## Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent. To use these rights, email [aravind@getvelu.com](mailto:aravind@getvelu.com). We'll verify your request and reply within the time the law sets. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

If you read a documentation site that Velu hosts for one of our customers, contact that customer first: they decide how their site uses your data, and we'll help them respond.

## California and other US states

Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and other states with privacy laws may have the rights to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing and of profiling. The categories we collect are listed in [What we collect](#collect); their sources and purposes are described above. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it, and we won't discriminate against you for using your rights. You can make a request, or appeal a decision, at aravind@getvelu.com; an authorized agent can make a request for you.

## Children

Velu is a business product and isn't directed at anyone under 18\. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

## Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Velu changes. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell account owners by email or in the product before they take effect.
